Picture this - you're on the first tee, you place your ball on the tee, take a few practice swings and then strike the ball. The ball is long but instead of staying on the fairway it hooks toward the adjacent public roadway and strikes the windshield of a passing car. The driver is hopping mad but are you liable? According to several court rulings, notably one here in WNY, you probably are not. Some would this an 'Act of God' but another term would be that you committed 'an intended act resulting in unintended consequences.' It's not a bad idea to notify your insurance company but it's more than likely the owner of the car will be submitting his broken windshield claim to his auto insurance company for payment. Next time adjust your swing and yell 'Fore!'
