frozen pipes

"Baby it's cold outside."  The lyrics of that popular song aptly describe the weather expected this weekend.  Frozen pipes are a real concern when the temp dips into the single digits.  What to do?  Here are a couple of ideas.  Open your cupboard doors around the kitchen sink and bathroom vanity to allow warm air to circulate.  Wrap exposed pipes with heating tape.  Open the pantry door in the basement if that's where the city water enters the house. Turn on the cold water in areas where the pipes are along an outside wall.  Running water is less likely to freeze.  Consult with your plumber or hardware store.  Water damage from frozen pipes is usually insured but an ounce of prevention is worth thousands of gallons of cure!
