curling shingles

2014-06-12

My wife thinks I have a roof fetish.  I confess to looking at roofs as I drive along residential streets and check for worn, curling or missing shingles.  They call out to me, crying, "Replace me, replace me!"  Well maybe I exaggerate a little.  The fact of the matter is as the roof goes so does the house.  A poor roof is more susceptible to allowing water seepage and wind damage. (Recently one of our companies denied a wind damage to roof shingles citing the loss was caused by the shingles poor condition not the wind.)  Sure it may be insured but you'll need to pay your deductible and the company will likely threaten to non-renew your policy at the first legal opportunity unless the roof is repaired or replaced.  Reduce the likelihood of a claim and it accompanying deductible.  So pull out your binnoculars and make a habit of inspecting your roof.  If your habit turns into a fetish take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
