When considering the purchase of a house make a point of finding out about the plumbing. Is it galvanized, copper, plastic, PVC or a combination of all of the above? I know of one company that will not write a new homeowner application unless the plumbing is either copper or PEX tubing. Water damage claims can be costly and galvanized pipe is more likely to fail than copper or PEX. An updated plumbing system along with updates to the heating, electrical and roof could make you eligible for preferred homeowner program. Not only would this potentially reduce the cost of insurance it would also allow access to policies with more comprehensive coverage. After looking at the window treatments make sure you check out the plumbing in the basement.
